Alberta is quickly becoming the skimming hotspot in Canada.  The hotspot in Alberta is Calgary with Edmonton as a close second.

Movie theatres have been the most popular location for skimming operations; however, it isn't just the kiosks that are being targeted but the food courts as well.  Movie theatres, ATMs and gas stations represent 61% of the skimming locations in Alberta. 

When using an ATM or debit machine be aware of your surroundings.  Protect your privacy; use your hand to shield your PIN when entering it.

If a debit machine looks like it has be tampered with, do not use it.  Are there any wires visible?  Are there scatches on the PIN pad?  Is there tape or sticky residue anywhere on the pad?

Take steps to protect yourself and your money.  Monitor your account regularly, criminals typically target accounts over a long weekend.  Check your balance and transactions online, and try to only keep the money you know you will need bank card accessible.
